The
Jeddah Economic Forum (JEF) was first launched in 2000,
and has become the region's strategic think-tank on
local, regional and international economic and social
issues.
Tim Stackpool was engaged to attend the event in 2005
year by the organisers, the Jeddah Marketing Board,
via the event producers.
Tim
produced the end of day video news packages for release
to broadcasters as well as directing the multi-camera
television coverage of the three day event.
Speakers
at the event included Arab League Secretary General
Amr Moussa, Malaysia Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi,
Senegal President Abdoulaye Wade, the President of Pakistan
and the Prince Andrew, the Duke of York.
Other
distinguished speakers included former US Secretary
of State Madeleine Albright, Suzan Mubarak, the first
lady of Egypt and Francesco Frangialli, secretary-general
of World Tourism Organization.
Prince
Turki Al-Faisal, Saudi ambassador to Britain, Prince
Sultan bin Salman, secretary-general of the Supreme
Commission for Tourism, Labor Minister Dr. Ghazi Al-Gosaibi,
State Minister Abdullah Alireza and Commerce & Industry
Minister Hashem Yamani also lead discussions.
Distinguished
participants at previous JEF events have included former
US Presidents George Bush, Sr., and Bill Clinton, former
German Chancellor
Helmut Kohl, former Malaysian Prime minister Dr. Mahathir
Mohammed former British Prime Minister John Major, Bahrain
Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad, Jordanian Prime Minister
Ali Abu Al-Rabheb and former Russian prime minister
and president of the Chamber of Commerce & Industry
of the Russian Federation, Yevgeny Primakov, aside from
local businessman Alwaleed ibn Talal, Olayan Financing
Company CEO Lubna Olayan and Tijari.Com CEO Sheikha
Lubna Al Qasimi.
The
three-day session took place at the Jeddah
Hilton with the participation of 2,000 delegates.
The
London Business
School was again the academic partner of the event
for the second year.
